This is education, not advice

The information here is written for the general reader and does not replace a personal medical consultation. It cannot tell you which marks on your face are scars, or whether treatment is appropriate for your skin, your health or your circumstances.

Scarring is improved, not erased

A scar is fibrous tissue that has replaced normal skin. Treatment can make scars shallower, softer and less noticeable, and no treatment restores the skin that was there before. Anyone describing complete removal of acne scarring is describing something that does not exist.

Treatment takes months and several sessions

Acne scar treatment is a course rather than an appointment. Improvement is judged over six to twelve months, and results vary with scar type, skin tone, healing response and how consistently the plan is followed. No outcome and no number of sessions can be guaranteed.

Active acne comes first

Treating the surface of a face that is still breaking out allows new inflammation to create new scars. Where acne is still active, medical control of the acne is the first part of the plan, and it is discussed before any procedural treatment.
